Building the Future with an Eye to the Past

Our initial breeding stock were registered Angus that came from a show cattle background.  We realized they did not have the production traits needed for our herd  (like they wouldn't breed), we went a different route.  We purchased a group of bred cattle from Briarwood Angus in Butler, MO.  They are a data-based herd, which was important to us.  They also have a great temperament, which is almost as important to us as carcass traits.  One female from this group has sorted herself to the top and has become the matron of the herd, having a heifer calf every year which we kept back to further build our foundation of females.
