Building the Future with an Eye to the Past
While we had a background in Suffolks, we've had a wandering eye with sheep - trying different breeds, looking for the "magic bullet" to get what we wanted. In the club lamb business, performance was not a huge indicator of quality, which left us struggling to find the breeds and stock that got us where we really wanted to be.
Over time, as we transitioned more to the meat business, we realized that quick growth and large carcass size were what we really needed, along with production traits like the ability to have and raise lambs without assistance. We have found that Suffolks have the qualities we need to put a big, beautiful chop on the customer's table in a short amount of time. So we returned to our roots and have been pleased with the results.
